"For this cereal I would forsake all others"

The History:
Quaker Hill Granola has its roots in both the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont.  I started making granola when I owned a B & B in New Hampshire just a few miles from Mount Washington.  I made granola for the hikers and skiers who stayed with me and the recipe was so well loved that many guests requested some granola to take home. I also started making granola as Christmas gifts for family and focused the recipe around my Dad’s love of cashews and maple syrup.

A few years later I relocated to Vermont and bought a home at the foot of Quaker Hill.  When my son was born in 1990 I was looking for a home based business to supplement my income. I baked and packaged granola and made my first sales calls to stores with my son in the baby carrier.  I distinctly remember standing in front on one store—exhausted from the effort of getting there with samples, paperwork and crying baby-- and thinking “This is crazy!”  But the stores tried the product and customers bought it and the business was born.

Like many other small Vermont food companies, I quickly outgrew the home kitchen and started lugging 50# bags of oats and dozens of jugs of Vermont maple syrup into town to do the baking at a commercial kitchen.

We are many tons of granola further down the road now.  My son who was born the same year as the business now helps with deliveries and has earned the title of “company humorist”.  Apparently, growing up with a diet rich in granola can produce a good natured teenager.
